The Conclusion of 'The Porter'

This eight-part series follows two main characters in a story based on the true events that formed the first Black union in the 1920s. Junior Massey and Zeke Garret work for a better life for their families and communities in Montreal, Chicago, and Detroit despite the oppression of the time. MPB Premieres Season 2 of 'On the Farm'

In 2022, the "Preventing Opioid Misuse in the Southeast" initiative (PROMISE) from Mississippi State University Extension Service produced "On the Farm." The docuseries shared the stories of Mississippi and Alabama families struggling to find hope within the modern farming industry. On July 1 at 9 p.m., the second season shares four new stories focusing on local farms that produce fruits, catfish, dairy, and large animal stock. Juicy Meatballs in Lemon Sauce

Anita Sankar became a "Create Cooking Challenge: Easy Peasy" Top Ten finalist with this simple recipe that takes less than 30 minutes. The bright lemon flavor works well with ground chicken or turkey, creating a lighter alternative to beef in marinara on warm summer nights.

• 1 lb ground turkey or chicken

• 1/4 cup grated yellow onion

• 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp chopped parsley

• 1 lemon (you will use 1 tbsp lemon zest and 1/4 cup lemon juice)

• 3 tbsp olive oil

• 1 tbsp corn starch

• 1/2 tsp each of salt and pepper

• 1.5 cups plus 2 tbsps water

First 2024 Presidential Debate Airs June 27

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will meet for the first of two televised political debates on June 28 at 8 p.m. MPB will simulcast the broadcast live from PBS and CNN. The previously scheduled episodes of "Midsomer Murders" and "Sister Boniface Mysteries" are rescheduled for July 11.

'Mississippi Edition' Wins at Public Media Journalists Association Awards

MPB's daily public affairs news program won a 2nd place award from the Public Media Journalist Association (PMJA) at their annual conference in Washington, D.C. The winning show aired March 25, 2023, and focused on the aftermath of the deadly Rolling Fork tornado. The episode was one of 1,400 entries from 144 different organizations. 'Next Stop, Mississippi' Interviews Vicki Lawrence

Host Germaine Flood welcomes the incomparable actress, comedian, and singer who brought so many characters to life on "The Carol Burnett Show" between 1967 to 1978. The Emmy-winning Lawrence takes a break from her stage production, "Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two Woman Show," to talk about her life, fame, and her activism for women. Belhaven Softball Featured on New '10 Minute Time Out' Mini Podcast

New Courses for E-Learning Summer Session 2

MPB provides online, four-week courses for a wide variety of subjects facilitated by Mississippi educators that emphasize theory-to-practice applications. New courses include "Introduction to the Science of Reading 5-12," "Introduction to Mississippi's Multi-Tiered System of Supports," and "Integrating the Arts in K-12 Instruction." Eligible participants receive a certificate of participation and/or CEU credits upon completion. Summer Session 2 registration deadline is July 8 and courses begin July 10. MPB Student Council Applications Available

Mississippi students in grades 8 - 11 are invited to apply to be a part of the MPB Student Council. Members from around the state come together to produce a youth podcast, improve their social media skills, design informational campaigns, represent their communities with MPB staff at public functions, and start lifelong friendships. Once approved, they serve at least one year sharpening their communication skills to prepare them for college or the workforce as active participants in Mississippi's development.
