New MPB Original Premieres August 3

MPB presents an exciting new MPB Original, "Mississippi Quiz Bowl," in partnership with the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE). Students from Germantown, Northwest Rankin, and Hamilton High Schools compete for academic excellence in the "Economic" and "Personal Finance" challenges with host Keri Horn. Premieres August 3 at 4:30 p.m. and re-airs August 4 at 1 p.m.

Final Episode of Rolling Fork Documentary Debuts August 7

Filmmaker Willie Bearden returns to his hometown of Rolling Fork for the third part of his series covering the effects of the devastating tornado of March 2023. Rejoin the residents of the determined Delta community to see how far they've progressed and their future plans. Parts 1 - 3 will broadcast back to back August 7 at 8 p.m.

No Knead Bread

Aube Giroux is a passionate organic gardener and home cook who likes to share the stories of how food gets to our dinner plates with the award-winning Kitchen Vignettes. Many love homemade bread but hesitate to put in the elbow grease. Giroux shows an easy method for making delicious, bakery-quality bread in the home oven.

 

• 3 cups flour + a little extra for dusting (can use 2 cups white unbleached flour and 1 cup of spelt or whole wheat)

• ¼ tsp active dry yeast

• 1 tsp salt

• 1 ½ cup water

• 1 Tbsp cornmeal or semolina flour

Go Back-To-School with MPB Think Radio

The local original shows on MPB Think Radio are helping the community ease into the next school year during the week of August 5 - 9. Starting Monday at 9 a.m., the hosts for each daily show – from "Deep South Dining" on Monday to "Southern Remedy" on Friday– will discuss topics important to Mississippians at the start of a new academic year. Listen live or using the MPB App.

Next 'Day of da Vinci' is August 14

The next free educator workshop for MPB's "Day of da Vinci" initiative is August 14 at the Mississippi School of the Arts in Brookhaven. Teachers completing the new program – inspired by the new PBS documentary coming in November, "Leonardo da Vinci" –will receive three free Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for state licensure.

MPB Student Council Applications Open

Students throughout the state in grades 8 - 12 are encouraged to sign up for the MPB Student Council. As community liaisons, they will strengthen their media skills and learn to use their voices for the good of Mississippi. Applications are due August 31.

e-Learning Fall Session 1 Now Open 

New courses – including state standards in numeracy and literacy – are now available for the Fall 1 session. Eligible educators can receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for licensure. Registration deadline is August 19.

Mississippi Student Filmmakers Tell Emmett Till's Story Through Their Lenses

Two dozen students traveled from Sumner to Mound Bayou this summer, visiting historic locations along the route that 12-year-old Emmett Till took the day of his murder in 1955. The students debuted their project in Sumner on June 29, sharing what they learned about Civil Rights and how it affected them.
