JACKSON, Miss. – This week marks changes to Southern Remedy on MPB Think Radio.
Dr. Mary Morgan McLeod will become the host of Kids and Teens on Thursdays. Her first day is July 5. Dr. Jimmy Stewart, who previously hosted the Thursday show, will now host The Original Southern Remedy program on Wednesdays. Stewart has been hosting the Wednesday program since Dr. Rick deShazo retired in June. Dr. Rick was the co-producer and original host of the Wednesday program.
Southern Remedy airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on MPB Think Radio. The lineup of hosts and programs are now:
- Family Nurse Practitioner Josie Bidwell, Healthy & Fit on Monday
- Dr. Susan Buttross, Relatively Speaking on Tuesday
- Dr. Jimmy Stewart, The Original Southern Remedy on Wednesday
- Dr. Mary Morgan McLeod, Kids and Teens on Thursday
- Dr. Michelle Owens and Dr. Ali Brown, Women on Friday
McLeod’s areas of practice include internal medicine and pediatrics. The Yazoo City native has been on the faculty at the University of Mississippi Medical Center for several years and currently works at UMMC’s Grants Ferry Clinic in Flowood.
“Dr. McLeod comes to us highly recommended from Dr. Jimmy Stewart and Dr. Rick. That’s rather high regard she brings to the series,” said Jay White, producer of Southern Remedy Radio. “Morgan has a girl-next-door, relatable personality, and a youthful energy that listeners have already responded very positively to in her series of test runs.”
In all her years of medical training, McLeod never considered that one day she would be giving health advice to callers on a radio show, but she welcomes the challenge.
“I’ve seen the impact the other doctors’ shows have had on so many people. This is just another way to provide care and outreach to the public,” McLeod said. “I didn’t realize so many people listened to the shows and that reaffirmed my decision to be a part of Southern Remedy.”
Stewart, who also specializes in internal medicine and pediatrics, actually helped train McLeod when he was her program director. His plan as the new host of the Wednesday program, which covers myriad health topics, is to not deviate from what’s worked in the past.
“We are all sad to see Dr. Rick go. He’s such a big part of why we’re all able to give this service to the state of Mississippi and the Southeast, but I’m honored to be asked to fill in for him. I’m looking forward to continuing what he started and being an advocate for our listeners.”
Though he previously answered calls primarily related to pediatrics, MPB listeners should know Stewart’s internal medicine training means he specializes in treating all age groups.
“In my practice, I take care of people from birth all the way up to death. My oldest patient is 96 and youngest patient is 2 weeks old,” he said.
