Mississippi Public Broadcasting has won a 2022 Southeast EMMY® award for its popular children’s education show, “Ed Said,” and the broadcast agency’s news team has been honored with two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for outstanding achievement in continuing coverage and newcast.
Interim MPB Executive Director and News Director Teresa Collier said the recognition is a reflection of the agency’s commitment to its mission to inform, educate and entertain.

These awards highlight their dedication to providing MPB’s statewide audience with reliable, thorough, and balanced news coverage, as well as engaging educational resources.”
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter recently announced the Southeast EMMY® winners during a ceremony in Atlanta. MPB received the Emmy for Outstanding Children/Youth/Teen – Short Form Content: “Ed Said – The Roots.” Producers were Taiwo Gaynor, Keri Horn, Ezekiel Bandy and Ed Foose.
“Ed Said” is an “edutainment” program featuring a character who uses rhymes and rap to teach youth the importance of being healthy. The Emmy-winning song can be found here.
The news team received regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association for coverage of the water system failures in Jackson, Miss., and the Oct. 4, 2021, 7 a.m. newscast.
The water system failures coverage also received a Division B second-place award from the Public Media Journalists Association.
