MPB Unveils New Logo, Sonic Brand for the Agency’s Mississippi Mission
JACKSON, Miss. – Today, Mississippi Public Broadcasting unveiled a new logo and sonic brand, celebrating the agency’s mission to deliver quality educational, cultural, and entertainment programming to all Mississippians.
The new look and sound reflect MPB’s drive for excellence in a digital age, and its commitment to reach audiences – regardless of the platform where they receive their news, information, or educational resources.
The new branding extends to MPB’s website, app, and streaming services with improved functionality for those who visit.
The launch coincides with the 20th anniversary of the vote by the Mississippi Authority for Educational Television Board to make Mississippi Public Broadcasting the agency’s brand name.
“We are very excited to unveil the new brand identity,” said Royal Aills, executive director of MPB. “We feel as though the new brand is symbolic of the direction the agency is headed as we look to better serve our audiences in an ever-changing media landscape.”
The station went on-air in 1970 with a legislative mandate to provide educational and instructional programs for Mississippi residents. Since then, streaming has given MPB a global reach.
The new branding strengthens MPB’s position as the leading multimedia outlet for Mississippi stories and a catalyst for thoughtful conversation and engagement. The new logo, sometimes referenced as a chat bubble or thought bubble icon, signifies what MPB has done for the last 50 years – communicate and educate through storytelling. The sonic brand, with a blues guitar lick, draws on Mississippi’s cultural heritage.
“MPB recently celebrated its 53rd year serving the people of Mississippi,” Aills said. “We hope to continue to serve the community for the next 50 years, evolving as needed to meet our audiences ‘where they are’ in terms of how they consume their news, information, or programing.”
MPB’s look is new; the mission remains the same.
