Supporters from the University of Mississippi, the University Medical Center, Millsaps College and other concerned citizens stood outside the College Board Offices carrying signs in support of embattled Ole Miss Chancellor Dan Jones.
"We stand with Dan. We stand with Dan." said protestors
Nina Washington was one of about 80 people at the protest. She was president of a medical association for students of color, when Jones was Vice Chancellor there. The Chancellor of Ole Miss oversees UMMC.
"Dr. Dan didn't just give word service, if you will. He was truly committed to increasing the diversity of the University of Mississippi Medical Center." said Washington.
Eddie Maloney is President-Elect of the Ole Miss Alumni Association. "I just want to say when you have measureables about what a university should be graded on, we're excelling in everyone of those measureables; whether it's enrollment, student grade point averages, ACT scores. Folks I just don't see changing the CEO of a company when things are going as well as they are there." said Maloney.
Another supporter came before the protestors that took everyone by surprise. "Dan Jones is not my chancellor. He's my dad. I am not here to speak on his behalf. He's made some tough decisions and stuck by them." said Jones.
Support for Jones has led to reopening contract negotiations. Demonstrators hope the protest will lead to another four year contract for Jones.
