More medical marijuana dispensaries are officially opening in the state
When you first walk into Kush Vibez in Jackson, there is a big window and a white door. Patients must present an official medical marijuana prescription card before they can view the products on display.
Ray Holbrook is the owner of Kush Vibez. He owns other stores in Louisiana and has a distribution center in Texas. He says having many years in the industry made the process in Mississippi smoother for him.
"A lot of it is just getting your banking correct, documentation, turning things in and being aware of policies and the policy changes to come." he said. "We've been doing this for over almost six years and as we build and gain that knowledge, it kind of helped us come to this market and evolve."
Holbrook is not the only store manager coming to Mississippi that will be balancing multiple stores in multiple states. Melvin Robinson is the executive director of the Mississippi Cannabis Trade Association. He says how these store owners adapt to the state's industry depends on where they originally come from.
Someone coming from Louisiana, which is very restrictive already... they might be a little more relieved that they're in Mississippi now," he said. "versus someone that might come from Colorado or Oklahoma where they have less restrictions."
There are currently over 170 registered dispensaries in Mississippi.
