Mississippians for Donald Trump are rallying supporters as state Republicans hold their annual convention. They say it's time to show a united front. MPB's Desare Frazier reports.
Mitch Tyner, Chairman of the Mississippi for Donald Trump Committee calls himself a "day-oner."
"The minute he announced I was aboard the Trump Train," said Tyner.
Tyner is hosting a rally in Jackson to get supporters revved-up for November. The Trump train has galvanized millions of supporters by proposing to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico to keep illegal immigrants from entering the country, promising to create jobs and revamp the nation's trade policies and helping veterans. Critics say the train is off track and Trump's blunt remarks are abrasive and racist. Tyner disagrees.
"Donald Trump is a president for everyone. When you increase the economy everyone benefits. It doesn't matter your nationality, your race, your party," said Tyner.
The Republican Party has splintered over Trump as the presumptive nominee. Mississippi Congressman Greg Harper says he supported Ohio Governor John Kasich, but he will stand with Trump. He made a pit stop at the rally on his way to the Republican State Convention.
"Wanted to come by to show my support for who we know will be the nominee of the party, Donald Trump and come and visit with friends, and know that we have to find a way as a Republican Party to make sure we unify behind our nominee," said Harper.
Mitch Tyner says there will be party unity and Mississippians will be seeing much more of Trump and his supporters getting out the vote.
