A mural of the the Chickasaw woman Hoka is set to be unveiled Monday in Oxford. According to a popular legend-- with some documentation to back it up-- Hoka once owned the land that now is Oxford. She was forced to sell the parcel before the Chickasaws' relocation to Oklahoma under President Andrew Jackson.
Some versions of Hoka's story refer to her as "Princess Hoka," although historians say the title is inaccurate and misleading.
