State Senator Chris McDaniel is back on the campaign trail, this time pushing to get more conservative candidates elected to office.
At what seemed eerily similar to a campaign stop in Pearl last night, Tea Party backed State Senator Chris McDaniel addressed supporters on his new Political Action Committee, the United Conservative Fund. Launched late last year, the PAC seeks to prop-up conservative candidates by putting them through a vetting process while also holding conservatives -- quote -- accountable. McDaniel says his PAC will rely on three basic principles.
"The United Conservative fund basically stands for three core principles." says McDaniel. "The first is the federal government is too large; that it's trying to do too much. That goes to the second part of our core tenants which is the idea that all powers not delegated to the central government belong to the states and the people. Number three, we believe strongly in a high moral tone. We want those politicians to be conservative and fight for those three core tenants and fight for the constitution and liberty."
Ray and Mary Jones of Brandon were supporters of state Senator Chris McDaniel during his failed bid for U.S. Senate last year. They say they are likely to look toward the PAC when it comes to selecting a candidate during November's general election.
"We don't look at things like 'if you're Republican you're automatically conservative." says Ray Jones.
"It's about Tea Party principles, it's about conservatism as he said, free market principles, the constitution which has been trampled on, and we want to go back to it." Mary Jones says.
"Those are the only people were going to support." says Ray Jones.
While McDaniel has yet to confirm whether he will be a candidate for a higher, state-wide office later this year, he did say that he will at least run for re-election to his current state Senate seat.
