Law enforcement officer around the state will be teaming up over the next two weeks to crack down on drinking and driving.
A drunk driver killed 26-year-old Krystal Foster of Vicksburg in 2014. Her mother, Yolanda Bolls say it is among the hardest things she has ever had to deal with.
“I listen to music and I try to relax but she always comes back,” says Bolls. “You know, because we talked every day. Even when she was going to college, every day, on break, every day. I miss it, the calls, the ‘I love you’s.’ The hurt and pain never goes away. Never. I don’t care how many councilors you see, it never goes away.”
Bolls joined officials from the Mississippi Highway Patrol Friday to kick-off the state’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign for the 2016 holiday season.
Law Enforcement across the state will be stepping up patrols watching closely for anyone who is driving impaired.
“There’s obviously increase traffic on the road because people are traveling during the holiday season,” says Mississippi Highway Patrol
Lieutenant Colonel Randy Ginn. “During that time we try to be more visible and encourage people through campaigns like this and education to be more aware of other people and their actions and the responsibility that they have to drive safely.”
For Bolls the message is simple…
“Be responsible when you get behind that wheel, because the hurt and pain never goes away. Never.”
Last year, 162 Mississippi died in alcohol-related crashes.
