The city's public school system announced this week that students will go to virtual learning when they return from holiday break. The water pressure issues in Jackson have continued to leave many buildings, including Jackson schools, without clean water.

Jackson Public Schools will go virtual this week
The city says that progress has been made, but several homes in South Jackson are still struggling to get access to running water. George Stewart is the President of the Jackson Association of Educators as well as a public school teacher. He says that the district has made improvements and issues like this slow that progress down.
"We've made some great gains academically," he said. "Whenever we have to shut down, its really a disservice to our students."
This is not the first time these schools have had to adapt to water issues. Stewart says he is proud of the teacher community in Jackson for how they've persevered so far.
"Our teachers, our administrators, were very resilient, " he said. "We're doing this for our kids."
Jackson Public Schools plan to go ahead with starting classes on Thursday, but are monitoring the water situation.
