As rain continues to fall across much on Mississippi, state officials are continuing to end county level burn bans.
At this time, only Claiborne, Hinds, Jefferson and Sharkey counties remain under the ban. That’s down from the 76 counties that were under a ban last week.
Marty Pope is a meteorologist with National Weather Service in Jackson.
And while the rains have put an end to the fire bans, Pope says it’s unlikely that the rain will be enough to put an end to the drought overall.
Either way, Pope says Mississippians can expect to see rain fairly regularly over the next few weeks.
