Mississippi Public Broadcasting and the City of Tupelo honored those who fought and those who fought and died or are missing in action in the Vietnam War, Nov. 1-2.
On Wednesday, Nov. 1 from 4-6 p.m. MPB hosted an event titled Vietnam Reflections: Mississippi Stories at the Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum in Tupelo.
The event included a screening of Mississippians in Vietnam: A Shared Experience, which is an MPB original documentary, a panel discussion and a reception. Panelists included the following:
- Rep. Manly Barton, District 109 – George and Jackson Counties – featured in Mississippians in Vietnam: A Shared Experience
- Rep. Mac Huddleston, District 15 – Pontotoc County – featured in Mississippians in Vietnam: A Shared Experience
- Carlyle “Smitty” Harris – (USAF) Retired, Vietnam POW
- Marsha “Cricket” Holder – Army Vietnam veteran and SP5 Administration Specialist
A reception sponsored by the MPB Foundation followed the discussion.
On Thursday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m., the City of Tupelo officially dedicated a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall at Veterans Memorial Park. The program included remarks by Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves. John Rowan, president of the Vietnam Veterans of America, was the guest speaker.
