"I'm a product of small-town Mississippi and a lifelong Mississippian. A strong conservative, my work in state government has focused on the principles of guarding the taxpayers’ dollars, improving educational opportunity, and growing new careers so that the state’s best and brightest can stay in our state.
I am pro-life and committed to protecting the rights of the unborn. I am committed to protecting the Second Amendment and will fight Washington liberals who try to take those rights away.
My business training in the banking sector made me a fierce advocate for balancing the state budget while minimizing state debt. Our conservative management helped fill the state’s “rainy day fund” and reduce the overall debt burden. My upbringing in Florence’s public schools made me driven to reform the education system to increase opportunity.
A father of three and husband to another small-town Mississippian, the former Elee Williams of Tylertown, I am dedicated to creating a future Mississippi in which all our children can thrive and stay at home to raise their children."
Why are you running for Governor?
"I'm running for governor to keep Mississippi on the right track. We’ve made great progress on education in Mississippi. We’ve won results on workforce training, teacher pay raises, record school funding, and scholarships for future teachers—just to name a few things. The most important item: we focused on outcomes, not inputs. We’re no longer just measuring success by how many dollars we put into the system, but by how many kids get a quality education. And it has made all the difference.
In national assessments, our kids are outpacing the nation when it comes to gains in math and reading. We also need to look after our most vulnerable young students. I support the program that gives children with disabilities access to the education they need to thrive. I’ll protect them. It’s the right thing to do. As governor, we’ll keep working on our schools so that our students are equipped to start lives, careers, and families here in our state.
We've created good-paying jobs, and our unemployment rate is the lowest in the state's history. We've cut taxes, and state revenues have actually gone up because our economy is roaring back. As governor, I'll keep competing with states across the country—as well as foreign competitors—to bring quality jobs to our state.
I also want to protect our values. I'm pro-life. I believe in the 2nd Amendment. And I believe in religious liberty. I will work tirelessly to protect those values as governor."
