Mothers Day

Air date 05/11/14

Jews, like everybody else, love their mothers, but there's no disputing that the relationship can be, well, complicated. Take the mother in Phillip Roth's novel “Portnoy's Complaint” – please. Portnoy describes her as a domineering, micro-managing, needy nutcase. On the other hand, one of the most respectful songs in all of the Jewish canon is called “Eishet Chayil,” or “Woman of Valor.” Sunday on “Sounds Jewish,” music and comedy to mark Mother's Day.
