Bay Bridge Fest
On this episode of Mississippi Roads, Mississippi rolls out the welcome mat to visitors, Bay St. Louis rebounds, and comfort food in a comfortable setting lures diners to CS's in downtown Jackson.
People
Ellis Anderson, author, artist, and civic activist, rode out Hurrican Katrina in her Bay St. Louis home. She tells her personal story from Hurricane Katrina, and the work she's done with Bay St. Louis to get the town back on its feet. Her memoir, Under Surge, Sunder Seige, covers the events before and after the devestating storm nearly wiped Bay St. Louis off the map.

Mississippi's Welcome Centers are attractions on their own, with each built to resemble the antebellum structures so famous in the south. The welcome centers are decorated with antique furnishings, with grounds that include picnic tables, grills, telephones, restrooms, and more. Staff are ready to help during regular hours every day of the week.
CS's Restaurant, located in Jackson, has been a local staple for many years. The restaurant has been around since the 1950s, serving their homemade burgers (including "The Inez", coated in chili and cheese) and slowly covering their walls with bumper stickers.
The Bay Bridge Fest began in 2007 with the opening of the new Bay Bridge, finally reconnecting the cities of the coast after Hurricane Katrina. The fest, which features local music, food, and art, was named the Mississippi Event of the Year in 2012.
