Segment 1:
Incumbent Senator Thad Cochran is one step closer to a seventh term after winning a brutal and expensive primary run off election. Cochran unofficially won nearly 51-percent of the vote in a race against tea party backed state senator Chris McDaniel. During a brief speech in Jackson, Cochran called his victory a team effort with his supporters.
Segment 2:
Much attention is rightly paid to the voter registration efforts during Freedom Summer 50 years ago.  But that time was also one of great change for the medical community.  Hospitals and clinics were segregated, and black doctors could not treat their own patients in white hospitals.  Dr. John Ditmer is the author of the book "The Good Doctors."  He talks with our Ezra Wall about the medical system during that long summer.
