Genetic Mapping pt. 2

Air date 08/05/11

A group of researchers from the University of Oxford, Harvard Mecial School and the University of Mississippi Medical center has constructed the world's most detailed genetic map, a tool scientists can use to better understand the roots of disease and how DNA is passed generationally to create diversity in the human species. This study is uinque in that, not only is it the most complete map of the human genome ever compiled, but it is also the ONLY such test to be conducted using DNA from African-Americans

On Tuesday, Dr. James Wilson gave us our crash-course in genetic mapping and the medical promise that it holds. You will find that discussion here

Today, Dr. Wilson, professor of medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and the coordinator of this study, talks about why it's important to include African AMericans in a study like this.
