Wednesday, Feb. 29: School Violence

Air date 02/29/12

The recent school shooting in Ohio has left three dead and the alleged shooter in jail, and this leaves many Mississippians remembering our own tragedy from 15 years ago: the shootings at Pearl High School. Karen speaks with Dr. Dennis Bunch, associate professor in Leadership and Counselor Education at the University of Mississippi, about the tragic relevance of that traumatic event.

One iconic children’s character is setting up shop at the Mississippi Museum of Art this weekend. "Curious George Saves the Day" will open this Friday, and the museum’s executive director, Betsy Bradley, describes how the story of this little monkey is likely to capture the imagination of both the young and the young at heart.

“Hoop dreams with hoop earrings,” is how one critic describes “Showtime,” a documentary about a Mississippi girl’s basketball team. Ben Guest, a teacher-turned-filmmaker, follows the team as they navigate the ups and downs of their season. After winning the Audience Award at the Oxford Film Festival, Guest speaks with Cherita Brent about his film and his hopes for its future.
