Feb. 1: Budget Recommendations

Governor Phil Bryant releases his first budget recommendation for fiscal year 2013. Bryant recommends many budget cuts, but assures that he will not call for new taxes. He hopes to cut the budget by $26 million and set aside an additional $100 million for the "rainy day fund". In addition, Bryant announces plans to sell one of the state's airplanes for $2 million.

1300 nurses and nursing students convened in Jackson yesterday for the annual statewide nurses' summit. Daniel Cherry speaks with U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson about the state of Mississippi's healthcare system and our need for new nurses.

The Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Services welcomes nominations for the 2012 GIVE Awards. Deirdra Harris Glover joins Karen Brown to encourage submissions honoring the good works of fellow Mississippians. The deadline for nominations is February 15th.
