Jan. 12: Pardons Blocked

Air date 01/12/12

Governor Haley Barbour's pardons of over 200 Mississippi criminals have hit a road block. Attourney General Jim Hood convinced Judge Tomie Green to issue an injunction blocking some of their releases on Wednesday, citing the rule in the Mississippi constitution that criminals must publish a letter stating why they should be cleared in their local paper at least 30 days before the pardon is issued. Jeffrey Hess weighs in on the language of the constitution and some of the issues surrounding the controversy.

The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) has released a new report providing an analysis of residential building codes in the 18 hurricane-prone coastal states. Mississippi recently recieved a score of 4 out of 100 -- among the worst. IBHS president Julie Rochman explains what that score means and what the state can do to better prepare for potential storms.
