Jan. 11: Barbour's Final Pardons

Air date 01/11/12

Incoming governor Phil Bryant gave his first address in front of a crowd of politicians and supporters during his inauguration festivities yesterday. He outlined his four main priorities for Mississippi's future: energy, health care, education, and teen pregnancy.

Outgoing governor Haley Barbour followed the tradition of pardoning select criminals as one of his final acts in power. Daniel Cherry speaks with Randy Walker, a victim of one of the pardoned murderers. In 1993, David Gatlin shot and killed his estranged wife, Tammy Ellis, and shot and wounded Walker, her friend. Gatlin is one of those pardoned by Barbour in his final days in office.

Also, Karen Brown interviews Matt Steffey, a professor at Mississippi College School of Law, about the legality of Barbour's final pardons.
