Tues, July 24: More Smoking Bans

The president of the Mississippi State Medical Association says the growing list of Mississippi cities with indoor public smoking bans should ease the path to a state wide ban. Three more towns have added smoke-free ordinances bringing the total to 61. Dr. Steve Deemetropoulos talks to MPB's Jeffrey Hess about the growing number of smoking bans.

In her long career in nursing, Christie Rainer kept seeing patients in Meridian, her home, who were falling through the cracks. Now she is working to open the People's Charity Clinic of East Mississippi. The clinic will serve the homeless of the Meridian area when it opens in the next couple of months. Then, records show that more than a million people are living with HIV/AIDS in the United States. According to the Mississippi Department of Health nearly 10 thousand of those infected live in the Magnolia State. This week at the International AIDS Conference in Washington DC world leaders are focused on continuing the fight against the disease. MPB's Lawayne Childrey has more details.
