Tuesday, July 17: Romney in MS

Air date 07/17/12

The likely Republican Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney is trying to keep Mississippi voters active in his run for the White House. The former Massachusetts Governor held a fund raising event in Jackson yesterday to meet Mississippi supporters.  Dr. Marty Wiseman is director of the John C. Stennis Institute of Government at Mississippi State University. He joins us to talk about what role Mississippi could play in the upcoming national election.

Then, Congress recently passed the Restore Act, aimed at revitalizing the Gulf Coast after the 2010 oil spill. Mississippi leaders recently assembled on the coast to begin evaluating where those dollars should be spent. Mark Henry is executive director of the Mississippi Department of Employment Security. He tells MPB's Rhonda Miller that the restoring the gulf coast includes more than cleaning up the environment.

Also, Teacher Wall is a virtual teacher town square where America’s educators can share their stories, knowledge, and ideas on our nation’s school. Each teacher who participates is asked one of several pre-determined questions about education. Adrienne Williams is principal of Bolton-Edwards middle school. Katie Lea teaches 2nd and 3rd grades at Stonebridge Elementary in Brandon. They were here to record videos for Teacher Wall. MPB's Ezra Wall asked them, "What is your best moment as a teacher?"
