Monday, June 18: Mayor Johnson

Air date 06/18/12

Two Mississippi mayors were on the list of attendees at the 80th annual US Conference of Mayors: Jackson Mayor, Harvey Johnson, Jr. and Hattiesburg Mayor, Johnny DuPree. We caught up with Mayor Johnson. Among the issues he addressed were the Jackson's issues with violent crime, and the capital city's crumbling infrastructure. Johnson starts by reflecting on remarks made by Vice President Joe Biden, who spoke at the conference.

Then, Kevin Farell speaks with Ashley Jefcoat about how the internet can make vacation planning easier.

Also, the cost of a good family getaway is hard to nail down. Some sources say it's around a thousand dollars. But if you're traveling to a major theme park or, say, to see some shows in New York, it's much more. For those interested in spending a little less money, and staying a little closer to home, we're offering you a series of conversations to help you Discover Mississippi.  Bobby Cleveland, long-time outdoors editor for the Clarion Ledger, talks with us about fishing. By the way, check out Bobby's latest gig as columnist for Mississippi Sportsman, an online magazine.
