Wednesday, May 16: Foster Families

Air date 05/16/12

Governor Phil Bryant has named Brent Christensen as the new executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority. Christensen has spent the past 10 years as CEO and President of the Gainesville Florida Area Chamber of Commerce, and he says he hopes to get acclimated to Mississippi quickly.

Also, Mississippi is considered one of the most religious states in the country, yet it leads the nation with the highest teen pregnancy rate. The subject of sex may seem taboo in many churches,  but one Jackson Church has decided to face the issue head on. MPB's Lawayne Childrey reports how  young congregants are being educated about the consequences of unprotected sex.

Then, for 100 years, Mississippi Children's Home Services has been helping at-risk kids find families and other necessary services. With the need for foster families growing, MCHS is looking for 100 new foster families. John Damon and David Foster are with MCHS. Damon talks about the particular kind of children helped by Mississippi Children's Home Services.

Kristen Dupard won last night's competition, becoming the Poetry Out Loud national champion.
