Tuesday, June 12: Warden Speaks

Air date 06/12/12

Jan Michael Brawner is expected to die today in Mississippi's fifth scheduled execution this year. He is convicted of killing four people, including his own daughter. Dr. Don Cabana is the former warden at the State Penitentiary. He tells MPB's Ezra Wall why there are more executions this year than any year since the mid-1950s.

During the summer months, many children can put on weight two to three times faster than when they're in school according to a recent study. That's bad news in a state where more than 40% of children are already overweight or obese. Dr. Will Sorey is medical director of the University of Mississippi's Eli Manning Clinic for Children. He tells MPB's Daniel Cherry that summertime health is more than just skinned knees and bee stings.

Plus, Linda Fondren's commitment to fitness is more than a job to her. Fondren has been active in her Vicksburg community for years. She even sponsors public events aimed at encouraging others to get more physically active. On Day Two of MPB's Fitness Week, Fondren tells MPB's Ezra Wall how losing someone very dear changed the course of her life.
