Mon, Sept. 24: More on Ed Funds

1 - The Mississippi Adequate Education Program is the formula. The state government uses it to determine about how much money it should take to provide a basic education to a public school student. But the gap between that number and the current education funding level is 300-million dollars. Nancy Loome is executive director of The Parents Campaign - an organization that advocates on educational issues. She tells MPB's Jeffrey Hess about last week's legislative budget hearings.

3 - United States Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey was born in Gulfport. Her parents marriage was considered illegal at the time - her mother was black and her father, white. Trethewey spoke to MPB's Sandra Knispel about how her heritage influences her writing.
