Fri, Sept 21: JuCo Funding

Air date 09/21/12

1 - The head of the Mississippi Community College Board is asking for a $100 million funding increase to run the state's 15 community colleges next year.  Dr. Eric Clark presented his budget request to law makers on the Joint Legislative Budget Committee at a hearing in Jackson yesterday. After the hearing, he spoke with MPB's Ezra Wall.

2 - Almost 200,000 Mississippians are treated each year for some kind of substance abuse. For those struggling with addiction, a clean, sober life can seem like something they don't even deserve. Stephanie Stout says that's what she thought before her recovery began. Now clean, Stout is a Peer Support Specialist with the State Department of Mental Health. She joins us to share her story of addiction and recovery.

3 - William R. Hollingsworth, Jr.  was a Mississippian and an artist. His work is part of a new retrospective opening this weekend at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson. Robin Dietrich is with the Museum, and joins us to talk about Hollingsworth's life and work.
