Mon, Sept. 17: Grad Rates

Air date 09/17/12

1 - The state board of education is reaffirming its decision to remove gradation rates from the school rating system for a year, despite negative reaction from many Mississippians.  The decision moved 10 districts and 26 schools up to rankings they would not have gotten if graduations rates were included, most notable moving the Tupelo School district from a 'D' to a 'B'.

State School Board chairman, Dr. Wayne Gann, explains the board's decision while Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves says graduation rates should be included.

2 - Everyday Technology explores - what else? - the new iPhone 5.

3 - Chris Cherney has been involved in child advocacy for 40 years - over 30 of those years at Mississippi Children's Home Services. Cherney will retire as that organization's CEO at the end of the year. He sat down with us to reflect on the changes in child advocacy over the last 40 years, and to talk about what still needs to be done.
