Thurs, Sept. 13: River Mayors Meet

Air date 09/13/12

1 - Thirty-one Mississippi river mayors, including the mayors of Vicksburg and Natchez, are in St. Louis today to focus on the future of towns that rely on the river. The meeting is part of the first ever Mississippi River Cities and Towns initiative.  MPB's Jeffrey Hess spoke to Vicksburg Mayor Paul Winfield, who talks about the new initiative and what he hopes it will accomplish.

2 - Every year, more and more minds are claimed by Alzheimer's Disease. There is still no cure, and much about the disease remains unknown. Dr. Tom Mosley is director of the MIND Center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He spoke to MPB's Ezra Wall about new Alzheimer's research, and how far treatment has come in recent years.

3 - Because of our coverage of Hurricane Isaac a couple weeks ago, the 7th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina passed without much fanfare. But in his new book, "Hurricane Katrina: The Mississippi Story," author James Patterson Smith hopes to shed some light on our state's struggles during that storm.
