Mon. July 16: Chaney on Healthcare

Air date 07/16/12

Last week insurance commissioner Mike Chaney drew criticism from a conservative group over his work on Mississippi's healthcare insurance exchange, a mandated part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Later one media outlet reported that Chaney had "tabled" the plan. Chaney said not so. He's simply done all the work that can be done at this time. Joining us now is Mississippi's Insurance Commissioner, Mike Chaney.

Plus, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, Mississippi leads the nation in the number of people who die by heart attack. The Mississippi Healthcare Alliance is a volunteer organization of healthcare professionals who want to change that. Through a program called "Dial Don't Drive," they're encouraging Mississippians to call 9-1-1 at the first sign of heart attack or stroke. Dr. Harper Stone is a cardiologist, and the president of the Mississippi Healthcare Alliance. He spoke with MPB's Ezra Wall.
