Air date 05/10/12

The obesity rate among Mississippi's elementary school students has declined sharply in recent years. A study released Wednesday shows that the number of overweight and obese children has declined from 43-percent in 2005 to 37-percent last year. Therese Hannah with the Center for Mississippi Health policy is the director of the study. She tells MPB's Jeffrey Hess about the new results.

Then, the Business Break talks about the health of Mississippi's economy in the coming year.

This week bookstores, parents and kids across the country are celebrating Children's Book Week. The week was made all-the-more poignant by the passing of renowned children's author, Maurice Sendak.  Emily Grossenbacher is Children's Manager at Lemuria Books in Jackson. She tells MPB's Ezra Wall what still draws kids to books after all these years.
