Starting this fall, Mississippi students will pay more to attend the state's public universities and colleges.  In a unanimous vote, the college board approved a  tuition hike. The cost of full-time tuition will go up, on average, about $460  next year at the eight universities; even more for out of state students.
Dr. Hank Bounds is Commissioner of the Institutions of Higher Learning. He tells MPB's Daniel Cherry that raising tuition is not what anyone wants to do.

An Honor Flight from Gulfport to Washington, D.C. for Mississippi World War Two veterans celebrates more than memories – it’s about freedom. MPB’s Rhonda Miller recently flew with 94 veterans who found themselves honored at every moment of the 15-hour day.

An Attala County doctor was struck by a vehicle and killed as he rode his bike on the Natchez Trace. Officials say the truck driver was not injured in the incident that killed Dr. Gary Holdiness.
