One Year Later: Smithville Rebuilds

Air date 04/27/12

Exactly one year ago, large parts of Smithville were reduced to rubble when an EF-5 tornado barreled through the small town in northeast Mississippi. MPB's Sandra Knispel drove around with the town's disaster recovery manager, Michelle Bond, to look at how far the town has come in the last 12 months. They started off in the double-wide trailer that now houses the mayor's office and the police station, looking at building projects pinned to the walls.

Barbara Shelton Collums is a retired pre-school teacher. A year ago, she had been planning on driving to Memphis to go shopping for an upcoming trip. But looking at the weather she decided at the last minute not to leave her house in Smithville in the afternoon of April 27th, 2011. MPB's Sandra Knispel spoke with her about what happened next.

Plus, Anita Modak-Truran joins us with a box office preview.
