Wednesday, Dec. 7 Pearl Harbor 70th

Air date 12/07/11

January will see many changes at the State Capitol: a new Governor and Lieutenant Governor, and new Republican leadership in the House. For the first time in over 30 years, you WON'T see Representative Billy McCoy, the outgoing Speaker of the House. Speaker McCoy talks to MPB's Jeffrey Hess about his legacy, and the new leadership.

Also, 16 years ago, Dr. Michael O. Minor took over as pastor at the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Hernando. As he told MPB's Sandra Knispel,he quickly realized that something at the small African-American church on the hill had to change.

Plus, 70 years ago today the United States came under attack when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Seaman of Utica was aboard the USS Arizona on that day, and died in the attack. An exhibit honoring his service will be opened to the public today at the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby. Joining us to talk about the new exhibit is Chad Daniels, the Museum's director.

And, every year readers from across the country and beyond look forward to the Oxford American's annual Music Issue. The issue has become known for highlighting the best and most unique in Southern Music. This year's Music Issue, available now, focuses on the Music of Mississippi. Joining us with more is Oxford American editor, Marc Smirnoff.
