Tuesday, Dec. 6 Medicare Deadline

Air date 12/06/11

Medicare-eligible Mississippians have until tomorrow at midnight to enroll or make changes to their Medicare coverage. That deadline is earlier than normal, in hopes that the Government can finish processing new users before the new year. Joining us with more details is Gill Silva. He's the acting Regional Administrator for the Centers for medicare and Medicaid Services.

Then, a-year-and-a-half after the BP oil spill, Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches have been cleaned and much of the concern over seafood safety has quieted down. But the long-term effects of the spill won't be fully known for some time, according to Dr. Jeff Lotz. Lotz is head of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory at the University of Southern Mississippi.  He spoke with MPB's Rhonda Miller.

Also, newly announced post office cuts could slow how quickly stamped letters get to their destination.
The post office is considering shutting down roughly half of their distribution centers...these closures are in addition to previously announced plans to close 37-hundred post offices. Spokesperson Enola Rice tells MPB's Jeffrey Hess everything is still being evaluated.

Plus, many Mississippi children will wake up on Christmas morning to the cold, wet noses of brand new pets. Joining us to talk about why your family might consider adopting that new pet from a local shelter is Denise Cantrell from Community Animal Rescue and Adoption.
