Friday, Nov. 11 Veterans Day

Air date 11/11/11

President Barack Obama marks Veterans Day today with a laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns before speaking at a Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Then the president takes part in a basketball game on the USS Carl Vinson in California before heading off to Hawaii for an Asia-Pacific summit.
Meanwhile, many Veterans will mark the day by not having enough to eat, or not having a place to live. Joining us to talk about the plight of U.S. military veterans, and what his organization is doing to help, is John Smith, public relations director for Operation Homefront.

Then, This weekend, Myrlie Evers-Williams will christen a new Navy vessel named for her late husband, slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers. Evers-Williams joins us now to talk about the upcoming honor, and about the first time she saw the ship with her family.

Also, Fox Conner is a Mississippian remembered by too few. His story is one of dedication and service to country. Through his life and career he mentored some of the greatest heroes of World War Two. Joining us with more of his story is Edward Cox, author of the new book, "Grey Eminence: Fox Conner and the Art of Mentorship." Cox tells MPB's Ezra Wall how he came to write about Fox Conner.

And film critic Anita Modak-Truran talks about this weekend's offerings at the box office.
