Gov. Candidates Square Off

With only about 3 weeks left before November's general election, the race for governor is heating up. Republican Phil Bryant has called for an education program that would bring dropouts back into school to continue their education and learn a skill. Democrat Johnny Dupree said he wants the state to use early childhood education programs to make sure children are ready to go to school. The two candidates squared-off in a televised debate Friday evening. In addition to discussions on education and healthcare, each candidate outlined his position on the three constitutional ballot initiatives.  Dupree says he and Bryant agree on Eminent Domain.Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant also spoke out about the ballot initiatives, saying he favors all of them.Democrat Johnny Dupree, the current mayor of Hattiesburg, and Republican Phil Bryant, the current Lieutenant Governor, will face each other in the November 8th general election. They're the only candidates remaining in the Nov. 8 general election for governor. An independent dropped out and the state Election Commission removed a Reform Party candidate because he's seeking another office.
