Mother Shares Sickle Cell Story

Air date 09/28/11

Sickle Cell Disease is a blood disorder which causes the red blood cells to become damaged and to twist in to jagged shapes similar to a Sickle. It affects predominantly African-Americans. In fact, one in 500 African-Americans are born with Sickle Cell disease.

We're joined by Shanderia Posey, Health Scene Editor for the Clarion Ledger.  Shanderia has been personally touched by Sickle Cell this year, having lost her daughter to the disease in December.
