Mon, Nov. 19: BP

Air date 11/19/12

1 - Mississippi's share of a massive criminal penalty settlement connected to the 20-10 oil spill is in the hundreds of millions of dollars.  B-P will pay $4.5 billion in criminal fines related to the 2010 oil spill.  Mississippi will be able to direct $335 million of that to recovery projects on the state.  Coast attorney Robert Wiygul, who represent a number of Mississippians affected by the spill, spoke to MPB's Jeffrey Hess. Wiygul says the plea agreement does not set aside ongoing civil suits against BP.

2 - The University of Mississippi is taking steps to deal with the fallout from the protests that erupted on campus shortly after the Presidential election two weeks ago. A new ad-hoc Incident Review Committee has begun sifting through hundreds of twitter, facebook and youtube posts. They're also interviewing witnesses to establish what really happened that night on campus. MPB’s Sandra Knispel spoke with Ole Miss Chancellor Dan Jones.

3 - During Everyday Technology's conversation about holiday shopping online, Ashley recommended the following sites:

·         Woot.com – Online store offering one deal for one day.

·         Fab.com – Online retailer specializing in collections of items based on theme, purpose, and style.

·         ShanaLogic.com – Similar to Fab, but aimed at a younger audience with categories for “kitties” and “yummy food”.

·         Etsy.com – Online outlets for artists and vintage resellers. Community members create themed “collections” of items.

4 - Vani Hari was working a high-stress job and eating the close-at-hand food that came with it when she noticed herself becoming less healthy. After gaining over 30 pounds and experiencing other health concerns, she began learning about healthy eating. She now shares her recipes and thoughts on food through her popular blog, FoodBabe.com. She came to Holmes County, Mississippi - which some say is the most obese place in the country - to try to lend a healthy, helping hand to that community. She tells MPB's Ezra Wall learning about healthy eating didn't come overnight.
