Wed, Oct. 31: District 1

Air date 10/31/12

1 - As Candidates Week continues here on Mississippi Edition, we turn our eyes toward Congressional District 1. Incumbent Republican Alan Nunnelee faces several challengers, including two we'll hear from today.

Though he's been on the show before, Congressman Nunnelee's campaign did not respond to our request for this interview. But last week in a debate, Nunnelee said he's concerned about the government's spending. He talked about some of the areas he would cut in another term.

The Democrat running in district 1 is Brad Morris. Mr. Morris says to understand why he's running, you have to understand his family background.

The Libertarian Party of Mississippi has a candidate in the 1st Congressional District. He's Danny Bedwell, who is also the State party chairman. Mr. Bedwell says the Constitution is key to his candidacy.

2 - Dr. Wilma Mosley-Klopton is the President of the Board for Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Central Mississippi. She is also a breast cancer survivor. She joined us in our studio to share her own story, and to tell how her ordeal has helped her reach out to others.
