Wed, March 13: Senate on Education

Air date 03/13/12

1 - In a flurry of action yesterday the State Senate passed an omnibus education bill, a bill aimed at preventing drunk driving and more. Both the House and Senate are working against the clock, trying to clear their calendars before an important deadline in the legislature today. Joining us with more is MPB Capitol Reporter Jeffrey Hess.

2 - A nearly $1-million grant from the Office of Naval Research is helping Ocean Springs High School implement new advanced placement math and science courses. The grant is part of a program to improve science education - STEM courses - in schools that serve military installments.  The money will be spent on equipment and teacher training over the next several years.  The AP curriculum comes from the National Math and Science Initiative. COO Dave Saba spoke to MPB's Ezra Wall.
3 - This is conference championship week for many NCAA basketball teams, including those here in Mississippi.  And a good showing in the conference tournament could be the difference in whether any of our teams will be headed to the all-important NCAA Tournament. Mississippi Edition sports guru Jay White spoke with our Ezra Wall.
