Mississippi second district congressman Bennie Thompson says he has received a letter  from the FBI that it is monitoring the state's investigation of last week's murder of an openly gay Clarksdale mayoral candidate, Marco McMillan. Thompson asked the federal government to seek potential hate crime charges in the case.  He tells MPB's Lawayne Childrey why the candidate's death hits so close to home.

 
Health officials are reporting an alarming increase in some dangerous superbugs at U.S. hospitals.  These superbugs from a common germ family have become extremely resistant to treatment with antibiotics.  Only 10 years ago, such resistance was hardly ever seen in this group.  Dr. Rick deShazo of MPB's Southern Remedy and the University of Mississippi Medical Center spoke to our Ezra Wall. He says Mississippi hospitals could be affected by the superbugs.
 
The 2013 Poetry Out Loud Mississippi Recitation Contest was held yesterday in Jackson. Taking home this year's crown was Starkville High School student, Akane Little. After the festivities, she spoke to MPB's Ezra Wall.
