Fri, Feb. 22nd: Sales Tax Hike?

Air date 02/22/13

1 - Mayors from across Mississippi are requesting that the House leadership bring a local sales tax bill to a floor vote. The bill known as the Citizens for Economic Development Act would allow municipalities to hold local votes on levying additional one percent sales taxes for special projects.  Senator Hob Bryan is against the measure. He explains why to MPB's Daniel Cherry. Then, Hernando Mayor Chip Johnson is head of the Mississippi Municipal League. He tells our Daniel Cherry that he respectfully disagrees with Senator Bryan.

2 - Sudden Cardiac Arrest can affect anyone at any time, even very healthy people. MPB's Ezra Wall spoke to two cardiologists about the disease. Dr. Kimberli Taylor-Clarke is with the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She lost her husband to SCA when he was just 32 years old. Dr. Malcolm Taylor is with Jackson Cardiology Associates. He says SCA is different from a regular heart attack.

3 - With film festivals across the state and the Oscars on TV, it's a busy weekend for movie buffs in Mississippi. First we'll talk to Michael Usry and Ryan Bohling. Both Mississippi filmmakers have projects appearing in this week's Oxford Film Festival. Usry tells us about his film, Grasshopper.  Then, Anita Modak-Truran gives out her Oscar picks.
