Fri, Feb. 8th: Rejected

Air date 02/08/13
1 - The federal government will now run a health insurance exchange in Mississippi. The decision to reject a state run plan was announced yesterday.  19 other states that offered exchange blue print received conditional approval, only Mississippi has been denied. The federal government cited a dispute between Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney and governor Phil Bryant over the exchange as a key reason for rejection. The ruling means Mississippi will have a federally administered exchange. Commissioner Chaney was not available for an interview yesterday. But here are some of the remarks he made to the media after hearing of the denial.
2 - Officials from the Children's Defense Fund are in Jackson today to address what they call the "Cradle to Prison Pipeline." They are expected to release a report later today outlining disagreement with zero-tolerance school discipline policies for minor, non-violent offenses. Marian Wright Edelman is the founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund. She spoke to MPB's Ezra Wall about the Cradle to Prison Pipeline, and why she has spent over 40 years advocating for the nation's children.
3 - Film critic Anita Modak-Truran joins us once again with a look at this weekend's box office.
