1 - A new study from the non-profit Kaiser Family Foundation shows that expanding Medicaid in Mississippi could lead to nearly $16-billion in new federal spending to health care providers in the state. According to the health care reform law, State lawmakers have the option to expand the program to cover as many as 300,000 new Mississippians.  Dr. Rachel Garfield is one of the study's directors. She tells MPB's Jeffrey Hess why Medicaid's role is so important in a state like Mississippi.

2 - Trade talks between Mississippi and Hong Kong have now begun. This week a delegation including Donald Tong, Hong Kong's chief US-based trade official, met with Governor Phil Bryant and other state leaders to discuss possible economic partnerships. Tong tells MPB News the US is an important trade partner with the Chinese territory already.
Brent Christensen is Executive Director of the Mississippi Development Authority. He spoke with MPB's Ezra Wall about the importance of international relationships on Mississippi's economy.
