Wed, Jan. 2: Legislative Preview

Air date 01/02/13

1 - Mississippi lawmakers will have a full plate when they head back to Jackson to begin the 2013 legislative session next week.  Marty Wiseman,  director of the John C. Stennis Institute of Government at Mississippi State University, says all the big issues - including education and possible medicaid expansion - will come back to the budget. He spoke with MPB Capital Correspondent Jeffrey Hess.

2 - When Alicia Anderson graduated from Jackson's Forest Hill High School, and then Jackson State University, she wanted to find a way to give back to her community. Americorps's National Civilian Community Corps provided her that opportunity. Anderson spoke to MPB's Ezra Wall about becoming a team leader at the Americorps campus in Vicksburg, and her hopes for a life of service to the community.
3 - When Pulitzer Prize-winner Jon Meacham set out to write about Thomas Jefferson, he knew questions would arise about Jefferson's involvement in America's slave trade. In Part Two of our interview, Meacham talks about human rights, slavery, and the man who wrote that all men were created equal.
