Read for the Record

One Day, One Goal

Mississippi Public Broadcasting, Mississippi State University, and the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education have come together to celebrate literacy in Mississippi and Read for the Record.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®, presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation, is one day of the year when millions of individuals come together to celebrate in an effort to jumpstart a child’s future and help children enter school prepared to succeed. Adults and children will be encouraged to read this year’s official book Otis by Loren Long and participate in related literacy activities.

This campaign will bring together Mississippians who share a common goal: to break last year’s reading record by having the most readers of the same children’s book in one day. Children will also engage in literacy through the arts to ensure that they have memorable learning experiences with Otis.

If you would like to participate and volunteer to read in an early childhood classroom in Mississippi on October 3, 2013, the official Read for the Record day, click here for more information.
